Frizzell Winter Associates is the landscape architecture arm of Northwoods Landscape & Recreation

Frizzell Winter Associates / Landscape Architects, established in 2008, is directly connected to Northwoods Landscape & Recreation through one of its owners, John Winter. Frizzell Winter Associates is owned by John Winter, Registered Landscape Architect and Erica Frizzell, Associate Landscape Designer.

Our mission is to serve the communities of Northern Minnesota and deliver the most professional services in landscape architecture, planning, and design. We are both involved with any client contact and client meetings. This enables us to have clear communication with them as consultants. Our goal is to ensure that our clients are satisfied with the results of the project and that we have exceeded expectations. As a smaller design team, we feel that this enables us to foster relationships with our clients that make us effective in working with them through all phases of a project. On every project that we work on with a client, our hope is that we can establish a long term working relationship with them that develops into future project collaborations.

Frizzell Winter Associates feels that the work we do as landscape architects contributes to the community in a positive way. We love what we do and always strive to provide the highest level and quality of work that we can in every project. We deliver the highest level of professionalism to our clients and provide them the expected design services as requested in a timely manner.

Our firm is involved in many different types of projects:

  • Landscape Architectural Design
  • Park Design & Planning
  • Site Planning & Design
  • Recreational Planning
  • Downtown Redevelopment
  • Environmental Planning
  • Regional Resource Management
  • Master Planning

"The City of Mountain Iron contracted Frizzell Winter Associates to prepare a concept plan for Locomotive Park, a National Historic Landmark. They have done an outstanding job completing the plan on time. They worked very closely with our City staff, City Council and Park and Recreation Advisory Committee in the development of the plan. The City has now hired them to prepare the landscape construction documents and they have also prepared a grant request for the City for $48,000 from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund Legacy Grant. We couldn't be more statisfied with their performance and ability."
