Meet Our Team

Northwoods Landscape & Recreation is a family-owned business proud to serve Northern Minnesota including Bemidji, Park Rapids, Walker and Grand Rapids.

Scott Winter, Owner

Scott Winter has strong background in business, design and is our main supervisor for all installations, both landscape and recreation. Scott attended UND and Bemidji State University and also spent 8 years in the U.S. Army. Scott has years of experience and is often requested to help out on teaching different landscape programs at the Northwest Technical College.


John Winter, Chief Landscape Architect

John Winter has 4o years of experience working with landscape design, recreation and natural resource as a registered landscape architect. John is very knowledgeable in horticulture, landscape materials and construction, recreation management and parks. He is very committed to the community and serves on many community committees and associations. He teaches community education and is often requested to present at BSU and Northwest Technical College.

Marvel Winter, Business Manager

Marvel Winter has a strong background in horticulture and landscaping as a Master Gardener and graduate of Dakota Technical College and has primarily focused on perennial beds and residential landscape design. She is also our accountant/business executive.







Jessi Winter, Business Manager

Jessi Winter graduated from Alexandria Technical College. She works at Sathre Title and Abstract and is also our business manager for our maintenance and snowplowing section of the business.







Erica Frizzell, ASLA | Associate Landscape Designer

Erica Frizzell is part owner of Frizzell Winter Associates / Landscape Architects that she started with John Winter in 2008. Her past professional experience includes over eight years in the landscape architecture industry in areas such as: high-end residential, retail/commercial design, residential P.U.D. projects, and park planning.
